The Pilgrim's Table debuts on Amazon as a #1 New Release

Some milestones you plan for. Others arrive the way a fellow pilgrim does at dusk, quietly, and then all at once.

This week, The Pilgrim’s Table earned the #1 New Release badge on Amazon. I have spent twenty-five years learning how to make people feel welcome, and I still was not ready for how this one would land. A little tag on a product page should not move a person the way it moved me. But it did, and I think I know why.

Why a Novel in the Travel Aisle Means Something

Here is the part worth sitting with for a moment. The Pilgrim’s Table is a novel. It is fiction. Yet it found its first home not among the made-up worlds but among the maps and the guidebooks, beside the accounts of people who have actually shouldered a pack and walked toward Santiago.

That tells me readers are not filing this book under escape. They are filing it under the real thing. They are reaching for it the way you reach for a story that knows where you have been, or where you hope to go.

For a debut, that is the best news I could ask for.

What the Book Actually Is

If you are new here, the short version: The Pilgrim’s Table follows five strangers who arrive, on the same October evening, at a former parsonage in Muxía, the windswept hamlet on Galicia’s coast that pilgrims have long called the end of the world. They have walked separate routes for separate reasons. Their host, Matthieu, a French chef who has fed countless travelers but never once walked the road himself, sets a single long table and asks them to stay for dinner.

What follows is a communal meal, one night, and the slow discovery that the people who can name our burdens most clearly are often the strangers who sometimes see us best.

These are stories about carrying weight, and about the strange grace of putting it down in front of people you only just met. No one is fixed by the end of the night. That was never the promise. The promise is the table.

To the Readers Who Have Taken a Seat at the Table

A badge is a number. What it stands for is people. So this is really a thank-you note.

Thank you to the readers who pre-ordered on faith, to the pilgrims who recognized their own blisters and their own quiet revelations in these pages, and to everyone who told a friend. You are the reason a small book from a small imprint landed at the top of a category built on the genuine article.

If you have read it, I would be honored if you left a review. Three honest sentences help a debut more than you know, and they help the next reader decide to walk in.

And if you have not yet found your seat, there is one for you at thepilgrimstable.com. Book Two, The Pilgrim’s Letter, is already taking shape, and Matthieu, at long last, is lacing up his boots.

Thank you one-thousand times over for your incredible faith and support.
